Will Book B:45-48
In the name of God, Amen.
I, William Spurlin of the State of Georgia and County of Pike being in a low state bodily
health. But of sound mind and memory calling to mind. Mortality of my body do make and
ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following (viz):
1st. I will and bequeath that all my debt be paid.
2nd I will and bequeath unto my wife Sarah Spurlin one hundred acres of lands more or less
that is my plantation whereon I reside together with all my hacks of horses, cattle, hogs
and all my household and kitchen furniture, during her natural lifetime and widowhood.
3rd. I will and bequeath unto the heirs of my daughter Caron Gilmon one third part of
lands No 179 in the ninth district of originally Monroe now Pike County.
4th I will and bequeath to my son Green Spurlin Forty Dollars.
5th I will and bequeath unto the heirs of my daughter Nancy Hoston on third part of lot of
land No 179 in the ninth District of originally Monroe now Pike County including the
plantation whereon Amala? Hoston now lives.
5th I will and bequeath unto my son James Spurlin one third part of lot of land No 179 in
the Ninth District of originally Monroe now Pike County including the Plantation whereon
James Howard now resides.
6th I will and bequeath that at the death of my wife Sarah Spurlin or when ever she marries,
(should she do so) The land plantation stock household & kitchen furniture and all the
estate willed to said Sarah together with the increase of the same be sold and equal
division made among the following ??eqalties (viz) The heirs of my daughter Caron Gilmon,
my son James Spurlin, the heirs of my Daughter Polly Blackwood and the heirs of my
Daughter Elizabeth Parker.
7th I will and bequeath that the forty Dollars willed to my son Green Spurlin be paid by
my Exectitors do soon as that amount can be raised from the increase of my estate.
8th I appoint my son James Spurlin & my friend Henry Spencer sole executor of this my last
will and testament.
And I do hereby publish ratify and declare this and this only be my last will and testament
revoking all former wills by made In testimony thereof I the said William Spurlin have
here unto set my hand and affixed my seal This the 25th day of April in the year of our
Lord 1835

declare this writing to be & contain his last will & testament. That at the time thereof

the best of your knowledge & that you saw Robert Hamilton subscribe his name as a witness
to said will so help us God William V. White

I, James Spurlin do solemnly swear that this writing contains the true last will of the
within named William Spurlin deceased so far as I know or believe & that I will well &
truly execute the same by having first the debts & then the ??acid ??tained in the as far
as his ends & said will there ?? & the law charge me. & that I will make an true & perfect
inventory of all such goods & chattels So help me God. Sworn to & subscribed before James
Spurlin me in open court this 7th march 1856

The last will & testament of William Spurlin deceased was brought into court & the
accompanying proof thereof being made by the oaths of Wm. V. White & Henry A. Spencer the
subscribing witness to said will. It is therefore ordered that said will be admitted to
probate & placed in record or a will for ?? & ?valestate, whereupon James Spurlin was
qualified as executor named said will.
