     County  }  In the name of God Amen, I John Coggin
of said state and county being of advanced age and knowing
that I must shortly depart from this world deem is right and
proper both as respect myself and my family that I should make
a disposition of the property with which a kind Providence has
blessed me.  I therefore make this my last Will and Testament,
hearby revoking and annulling all other heretofore made by
me.

Item 1st     I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent
and Christian like manner suitable to my circumstances
and condition; my soul I trust shall return to rest with God
who gave it as I hope for eternal salvation through the
blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, whose word I
have confidence in and merits I have trusted for forty four years.

Item Second  I desire and direct all my prior debts be paid if any without
delay by me Executors hereinafter named as I am unwilling my
creditors should be delayed of their rights especially as there
is no necessity for delay.

Item Third   I give and devise to my beloved wife Sarah lot of Land
number two hundred and eighteen on which my house stands.
Also lot two hundred and nineteen or so much of it as is
on the north side of birch Creek also the east half of Lot
number one hundred and ninety-nine also the East
half of lot number one hundred and eighty six all
of which land I give to my wife for and during her
natural life or widowhood; at her death or marriage
I give the above described land to my son Matthew
Coggin; in addition to the above described property
I give to my wife Sarah under the same expectations
as aforementioned my negro woman Melinda and

her four children viz Tellitha and Frances, William
and Joe and their further increase; until the death or
marriage of my wife and then to be the property of my son
Matthew Coggin for ever; in addition to this I give to my
son Matthew at my death my negro man Toby and his
wife Harriett and their five children to wit Jon and
Hannah Julian and Tom & Vincy & further increase.

Item fourth    I give and devise to my daughter Elizabeth Pennington
wife of William Pennington's children to wit Locke L.
Pennington, Henry A. Pennington, Sophroney C. Pennington
Sarah E. Pennington, Silas M. Pennington and Nancy
F. Pennington three negros and their further increase
Lowis Adaline and her child Alexander and Caroline
the said negros to be sold and the money to be equally
divided between them.  I also give to the above named
children Six hundred dollars in money or notes.

Item Fifth    I give to my son Silas Coggin the north half of
lot of land number two hundred and seventeen; the west half
of Lot number one hundred and ninety nine; the west
half of lot number one hundred and Eighty-six; the land
all being & lying in the first district of originally Monroe
now Pike County these lands I give to my son Silas Coggin
in addition to the lot on which he now lives and to
which I have heretofore made him a deed.  My will
further is that the consideration money expressed in said
deed shall not be brought against my son Silas in
the division of my estate.  I also give my son Silas
my negro woman Mary which is now in his possession
and her three children to wit Anderson, Mandy &
Martha and their further increase forever.

Item Sixth    I give to my Grand son John Coggin son of Silas 
Coggin one negro girl named Jain and her further increase who
is now in his possession which negro I give to my Grand son
if however he should without a lawful living child my will is 
that said negro and her increase if any shall return to my estate 
and be the property of my son Silas Coggin and if he is dead, 
then to his heirs.

Item seventh    I give to my daughter Nancy McCrary wife of Robert 
McCrary and her children five negros to wit Daniel a Mulatto, Simon 
26 years of age, Henry 12 years old and Sarah Elizabeth and Susan 
and their increase and I likewise give my Daughter Nancy and her 
Children six hundred(page 183)hundred dollars in money or notes 
to that amount at my death.

Item Eighth    I give to my daughter Nelly Pryor wife of John 
Pryor and her children three negros to wit Eliza and her child 
Celia and Rachel and their further increase.  I likewise give 
my daughter Nelly Pryor and her children five hundred dollars 
in money or notes at my death.

Item Ninth     I give to my daughter Mary Scott and her children 
free from the disposition of any future husband Anahoy and her 
two children viz Floy & Martha and Lilly and her child Nanney & 
Manina and Miles and Rose and her increase and three hundred 
dollars in money or notes at my death.

Item 10th      My will is that all my notes and money after my 
past debts are paid be equally divided between Silas Coggin, 
Matthew Coggin, Nancy McCrary and Mary Scott my will further 
is that in the division of these notes and money if any there 
be that each of the above named take his or her share at my 
death, but that Silas Coggin take Mary Scott's part as trustee 
for her.

Item 11th     My will is that all my property whoever or whatever
it may be not named in my will should be sold by
Executors hereinafter named and the money equally
divided between all of my children.

Item 12     I consider and appoint my son Matthew Coggin
and my son-in-law Robert McCrary my Executors
to this my last will and Testament this June 17th 1852.

of us the subscribers who subscribe our names here
in the presence of said testator and of each other this

  Pike County   }  Mr. William P. Ervin, John W. Dunbar and
Andrew J. Pryor do solemnly swear that we saw John Coggin
sign and heard him publish & declare this writing to be
& contain his last will & testament and at the time thereof
he was of sound and disposing mind & memory & that he did it justly
& without compulsion to the best of our knowledge and belief.  Sworn
to & subscribed in open court this 17th day of October 1853.

State of Georgia} Court of Ordinary Sept Term 1857
     Pike County} We Matthew Coggin and Robert McCrary
do solemnly swear that this writing contains the true last
will and Testament of John Coggin deceased so far as
we know or believe and that we will well and fairly
execute the same by paying first the debts and
then the legacies contained in the said will as far
as his goods and chattels will therewith extend &
the law charges us and that we will make a true
and perfect inventory of all such goods
and chattels so help us God.  Sworn to & subscribed
