Submitter: Ricky Todd (Alpine2525@AOL.COM)
Date: 25 Aug 1998

My name is Ricky Todd. I live in Huntsville, Alabama. I lack one surname completing the 5th generation of my pedigree chart. This family has been so elusive. My problem family is that of Henry N or H Coates born in South Carolina in 1810. His wife is Matilda ? also born in South Carolina in 1810. Henry and Matilda lived in Pike County Georgia in the town of Zebulon during the early part of the 1800's He last appear on the census in 1860. His son George married in 1866 in Upson County Georgia and lived until the 1870's in Upson, Georgia but I have been unable to find him in the census there. Henry first lists his occupation as shoemaker and then as grocer. Other Coates living in the county were Wilson Coates married to Lydia Pryor, John Coates and Shepard Coates. Though they lived in close proximity I haven't been able to connect them. Wilson Coates was also born in South Carolina in 1911 I think. I descend from Henry & Matilda's youngest son. George W. Coates. George married Nancy E. Minter, the daughter of David Chapman Minter and Martha Peugh, and moved to Marshall County, Alabama. George fought in the CSA, was wounded and held prisoner in a camp at Rock Island, Illinois until his release at the end of the war. Henry's other children were William J. Coates b 1835 also wounded in the CSA amputation of arm. Frances Coates b 1838 John W Coates b1839 Elizabeth Caroline Coates 1844 George W Coates. 1845 My line of descent go Henry Coates to George W. Coates m. Nancy E. Minter to Lillie Mae Coates m. Lonnie Merrell Camp to Opal Ruth Camp m. Aaron W. Todd to me Ricky Aaron Todd. The Todd family lived in Jones County, Georgia The Minters and Peugh's in Upson, and the Camps in Carroll. I have much information on these lines. I would sure love it if anyone could help me. I have pushed this line aside for year trying to find Matilda's last name or something about Henry. I would also love information on any of the other children. Thanks Ricky
