Early Pioneer Settler of Pike County

Drewery Allen was born in Orange County, N.C. in 1749. He married Elizabeth Yarbrough b.1752. Drewery Allen served in the N.C. Militia in the Revolutionary War. After the war, along with his family, he moved to Green County, Georgia. Then he moved to Pike County in 1824. Drewey died in 1828 and is buried in the Pines Golf Course. His grave was marked by the D.A.R.

Young Drewery Allen, the son of Drewery and Elizabeth, was born between 1790-1800 and came to Pike County with his father. He married Jane Moore in 1812. By 1836 Young owned 1600 acres in Pike County. Young Allen died in 1848 and is buried on property owned by the Pines Golf Course.

Robert A. Allen was b. 30 April 1792, d. 30 Nov 1876 and was the son of Josiah and Elizabeth Browning Allen. Robert A. was the grandson of Drewery and Elizabeth Allen. Robert came to Monroe County in 1822 and was one of the first settlers in Pike County when it was created in 1822. He was in the group that elected the first Judges of the Inferior court, Sheriff, Clerk of the Superior court, Clerk of the Inferior court and coroner. Robert is also known as Major Bob. Robert is buried in a family cemetery on Dickinson Road.
