Once upon a time there was a man by name of Benjamin Morton. He was born about 1801 in Onslow County, North Carolina. His family started West with a stop off in McNairy County, Tennessee for awhile. Apparently Benjamin married and started a family. He obained a little inheritance from his HUGGINS relative in Onslow County, North Carolina and it wasn't long until the Call to the West was loud. By 1860 Benjamin and his family are living in Rusk County, Texas. The census taker obviously didn't understand his North Carolina/Tennessee drawl and spelled his name MOTTON rather than Morton.

The Civil War comes along and Benjamin's boys sign up (still locating their CW records) with the Confederacy.
1. William (born cir a1832 TN) becomes a 2nd Lt in the 17th Texas Cavalry
2. John Luke (born cira 1834 TN) becomes PVT CO I 18 TX INF. (buried Hickory Grove Cemetery near Cross Roads in Northern Rusk County, Texas)
3. James (born about 1839 TN) is the same James? who joins the 11th Texas Infantry and dies in 1862 in Houston, Texas (still trying to prove this is same James) sad.gif

Benjamin may have also served in this war- searching Texas Civil War Records at footnote.com for him.

Any information on this family would be appreciated
