Do you have a Revolutionary Patriot in your family tree? Membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) honors and preserves the legacy of your Patriot ancestor. Over two hundred years ago, American Patriots fought and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today. As a member of DAR, through participation in the Society’s various programs and activities, you can continue this legacy by actively supporting historic preservation, promotion of education, and patriotic endeavors. Gerri, Do you know what it takes to be accepted by that DAR?
I received an email today from a very distant relative asking for my help. She's been trying to join the DAR, and has the appropriate documentation through one side, but she says that they want proof of who the mother was. It seemed rather odd to me, since the only groups I know of that go through the mother's line are generally Native American. I'd like to help her get the info she needs, but I'm not really sure what they are looking for.
Thanks

When I joined I had to have proof for both side not just the one that proved me back to rev war. They do this because of step children and adopted children.

Gerrie,
At the last gen society meeting, there was a lady that was trying to get members interested in joining DAR. She had some books that had research done in them. Do you know of these books and how they work?
She asked if I was able to trace back and my reply was that I had to get the civil war first. On my mom's side I have to find out who my great grandparents are yet.

If I am not mistaken what she was referring to was That DAR keep copies of all the doc's that all new members supply and adds to their data base. Sometimes they are able to help new member that are stuck on certain people or obtain certain doc, by looking at their records and seeing that you have a 3rd cousin that is already a member of DAR so they may be able to use their docs for your membership.

I'll keep this in mind. Maybe one day I'll be able to join.
