This is my other wish list.
This wish is for parentage of John T Powers. I know that John was born 23 Apr 1846 in Indiana, m/ Margaret Squibb, d/ 11 Apr 1907 in Cowley County Kansas. He had several children one of which was Ira Logan b 16 May 1879. wallbash.gif

Do you know anything else about him? Siblings names, County of birth or residence in Indiana....etc?
donnac91
Oh how I wish I did. I just had it confirmed that John was Ira's father and Margerat's maiden name was Squibb. (Recieved Ira's Death Cert.) The first time I have so far found him in the census is 1870 and he is married to Margaret at the time. They live in Charlotte, Bates, Missouri.

I'll admit I haven't worked on this line in awhile. When I hit brick wall, I went to easier hunting. tongue.gif

Donna,
I found 5 John Powers in Indiana in 1850 with a birth year close to the one you need. The one in exactly 1846 is the son of George, who is a widow and born in Kentucky. This is in Hart, Warrick Co. Indiana. They live next door to a Stephen Powers who also has a son--John D. aged 10 (b. 1840)-not picked up by ancestry transcriber.
Siblings on John son of George are Eliza, Nancy, Eizabeth, Andrew and Rachel.
Children in Stephen's family besides John are Hannah and Lavinia.
In Gibson, washington Co there is another John born in 1846...Son of Chester and Sarah. Siblings Elizabth, Joshua and Loretha.
William and Lucinda Powers in Franklin, Marion Co have Marion, Melinda, Jacob , Jospeh, Caroline, Marliel and Nancy beside John who is 6 years old
In Owen, warrick Co. Joseph and Syntha have Mary, william, James, Mariah, Mark and one unnamed child (a month old) besides their John who is 5.
Next family down form this is a Samuel Powers who does not have a John, BUT the following family is William and Amanda who have a John not picked up by the ancestry transcriber??? He is 5 an their other children are--this family is a bit strange there is Mary and then Sarah a female and Sarah a male??? Then Joseph, Syntha, AManda, Hardy, Edwin and Adeline.
These three Powers are from Kentucky as was the first one I found in the same county.
The last is a Uriah Powers from Virginia and wife Sylvia (from Ohio). Their John is 5. Their other kids are: Ann, Mary, Price, Mariah and George.
If you have the names of John's children maybe we can figure it from naming patterns.

All things considered...there are no telling how many the transcriber missed since the search p[age only showed 5 in Indiana and you see how many there actually are on the same or next page from these guys.
Hope it helps.

I hadn't thought of using naming pattern. Here are the names of John's children:William, Charles, George Reed, Annetta, Ira Logan, Alva Laten, Clara, and Mattie Pearl.

So how exactly does this work? unsure.gif

I know what I sent before is confusing and I am having a hard time sorting it out myself. I went back and wrote each family and the county they were in. And the names of your John's children. There are 5 families in Warrick Co. 4 with a John of the approximate age. The names I see in common are William and George. I would look first at those families and then try the others...tho I saw no names in common wit them except for one William in Marion Co.
It's just a thought and a direction.
Did he marry Margaret in Indiana? If so, you might check for Powers living in the same county or town as Squibbs.

Yes, he did marry Margaret in Indiana. I have found a marriage index listing them and their wedding date. I'll see if your suggestions pan out. Thanks
