Maurice Plunkett, 88, of Fort Smith died Monday, March 15, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was born and raised on a farm in Logan County, Sept. 7, 1915, and served in World War II in the South Pacific. He moved with his family to the Fort Smith area in the 1940s to start a family business, worked for the Frisco Railroad, was known throughout the area for his love of quail hunting and for training award winning field dogs and was a Mason.
Graveside service will be 11 am. Friday at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helen; two sons, Wade of Washington, D.C., Dwight of the San Francisco Bay area; three grandchildren, Ely, Liam and Noah Plunkett; two sisters, Hazel Chitwood of Denver and Helen Mae Dickerson of Conway.
