Well, I know that Francis E McLaughlin was born around 1855 in GA. ( Ogelthorpe Militia 226, maybe ) and word is she married a "JOHN THOMAS". In 1879 she had a daughter Katherine, (Katy ) on July 7 1885 she had a son, Mark Wooding Thomas SR. He doesnt show up on any census until 1910 in Atlanta. He worked for the railroad and travelled extensively. It appears he fathered a child by Georgia A Banks ( Jennie ) and was married to Georgia in 1908. Jennie was born in 1909 early 1910 perhaps. Divorced in 1912 ( article in Atlanta Journal ) Lost track of Jennie and Georgia there. Apparantly the early COBB COUNTY marriage books recorded the marriage to MARK W THOMAS TO GEORGIA A BANKS.

Francis's dau, Mark's sis, Katherine married at 16 and she and her husband and Mother were boarders in Augusta in 1900. Francis's shows WIDOWED. Now, something major happened between 1885 after Mark was born, since JOHN THOMAS no longer in the picture and Mark is not with Francis and Katherine ( she married James Percy Summers from the Newnan GA area ) in the 1900 census. Additionally Francis must have remarried a "WADE" and then became a widow. Francis died in 1933 at 77 yrs in Savannah, Chatham County GA and lived with Katherine, her dau up until her death. Katherine remarried "HILLEGASS" who worked for the railroad after 1920 and moved to Sav.

1910 census they are up in the Hanover, Wilmington NC area ..no connection that I can find.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Whew, that was a mouthful!

It really sucks not having the 1890 census, lol it puts a real dent in research. I know in our family the son of a family member lived totally away from his family at a boarding house on one census and we cant find the mother or sister anywhere that year. Lots of times depending on what was going on put took in other peoples children, related or not, if there was a hardship
