Garland Nathaniel Tolbert
GREENSBORO- Mr. Garland Nathaniel Tolbert, 83, of Greensboro died Monday, June 19, 2006, in High Point Regional Hospital.
Garland was born Sept. 7, 1922, in Jackson County, Ga., a son of Thomas and Susie Seagraves Tolbert and had lived in this area for 55 years. Before retiring he was associated with Pilot Life Insurance Co., now Jefferson Pilot for 39 years and was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. Garland was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church, the Fortney Sunday School Class, The Jamestown Rotary Club , where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a graduate of Wake Forest University and a charter member of the Deacon Club. On April 14, 1951, he married the former Sara Bass who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a daughter Robin Gilliland and husband Dick of Chillicothe, Ohio, and two grandchildren, Lindsay and Jessica.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Jamestown United Methodist Church by Dr. Gary Royals and Rev, Jim Watford. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Cumby Family Funeral Service on Eastchester Drive. Honorary pallbearers are to be from the Fortney Sunday School Class and the Jamestown Rotary Club and are requested to be at the church Friday at 1:30 p.m.
