Hello,
I have noticed that there are some people here that claim Missouri as their home state. On my wufe;s side there a bunch of Donaldson's from Brookfield, Linn, MO, USA. I count 13 relatives and figure there's more but I just can't find them yet. So I keep looking.

Am I right that Brookfield in the North Eastern part of the state?

Actually it is in the Northern part of the state but about central between Kansas City and St Louis. That is how most of us judge the state lol Kansas City is so close to the state line that there is a KC Kansas and a KC Missouri, and the same goes for St Louis there is St Louis Mo and St Louis Illinois

I don't think we are thinking of the same Brookfield, Linn County, MO. The one I found is located on SR 36 about half way between St. Joseph and Hannibal. But then maybe I am wrong. I have a relative that lived there his name was Edgar Donaldson. He is my son's 2 Great Grand Uncle. He always called himself "Colonel". Not sure why. He was born 24 April 1862. He missed the un-Civil War but I suppose he could have been in the Spanish-American War. Can't figure that one out.

James--

Brookfield, Linn County, MO, is about 125 miles WEST of Hannibal, MO, and about 100 miles EAST of St. Joseph, MO, along U. S. Highway 36.

I should know--I live about 25 miles west of Brookfield--and I pass it every time I head to my hometown of St. Louis. North Missouri is mostly rural, with rolling hills dotted with small towns about every 25 miles or so, about as far as a horse and wagon could travel in a day's time. Farms around here grow corn, wheat or other grain crops (sorghum, milo, etc.). Some raise beef cattle or hogs, but many small farming operations are shrinking or disappearing under the steam-roller of large corporate "farms."

The town has a population of under 10,000 and, although it doesn't have the usual town square, it does have a lovely little park in the center of town. The main part of town is a mile or so off Highway 36, businesses stretching for several blocks in each direction from Main Street--yes, James, there IS a Main Street.

Residences are spread out from the center of town--some grand-scale Victorians, some cottage Bungalows, many American Four-Squares, etc.--the usual mix of architectural styles covering the town's history. The town had a good school system and a lot of church denominations, and like the town in which I'm living, supports its school and school sports and church picnics and takes its civic pride seriously on the Fourth of July with a big fireworks display.

I checked the phone book and there are currently NO Donaldson's listed in Brookfield. That doesn't mean that there are NOT family descendants living there, it just means their name is no longer Donaldson.

HOWEVER, there is a very large Donaldson Company, Inc., makers of enormous air cleaning/filtering equipment for industrial use located in Chillicothe, MO.

Could your Donaldson be part of those people?

It's just a thought.

Hope this helps.
